Hey all!
Here I shall reveal the origin of my name 'Rainbow shoes' (though it's not that exciting). The truth is it all began three years ago when I started uni (yes I am a third year, feel free to gasp in awe at my age and wisdom). At the time I also stated living away from home in a college and I was hoping to use it as an opportunity to construct a sense of self, I was going from 13 years of uniforms to choosing my own attire and it was terrifying! After showing up late to the first meeting of my block wearing a tye dyed shirt my aunt got me and being so flustered that I got the name of my home town wrong I had thoroughly convinced at least half the people I would now be sharing close quarters with that I was a hippie on drugs! My outfits mellowed out a bit after that (and I never wore that shirt again!) but they moved on to more gym wear, it was quite a change as before moving to Sydney I had never owned shorts other than my school p.e. ones. I never imagined Sydney would be so hot though! I would wear my hair up in a bun (which has been described as looking like a cupcake on my head bringing about the over all impression of being a unicorn) and my shirts being mainly singlets or short sleeves. previously I had always been the jeans and funny T-shirt person now I was the sweaty unicorn in gym wear. What contributed to this was my lack of appropriate foot wear, while at school I had only really needed my school shoes, a pair of joggers and one pair of 'normal' shoes which at this time was in the shape of red and black Crocs with frayed sides and worn away grip (they weren't the ones with the holes, they looked like plastic ballet flats). Due to their lack of grip I mostly wore my joggers. Eventually I reached a point where I was buying lots of cheap shoes from Target to try and improve my situation but it wasn't until I went to David Jones with my mum and saw a pair of rainbow shoes that I found what I needed. I was reluctant at first due to the price but my mum convinced me and those shoes lasted me a year (in the image above you can see how much wear they got in comparison to a new pair). After they died I even bought a new pair! and after that pair got damaged earlier this year I got a new pair again! Though in slightly different but still rainbow colours. After getting these shoes I became more confident and I feel they contributed to the bright wardrobe I have now adopted as my style, I still wear funny T-shirts on occasion but I also wear splashes of single colours and now that I am used to the weather I wear jumpers and jeans once again, I havn't looked 'gymie' for over a year now even on the occasions I've gone to the gym I just look daggie and comfortable which is how I like it :)
sorry that was a really long explanation for such a simple story. Another contribution to the name is the fact that the new people (Freshers as we call them) at college started calling me rainbow shoes this year, I wear the title proudly and hope to hold it for a few years to come :)
Love, Rainbow Shoes
